Today, I am able to say that I have gotten my 5th Daily Deviation. Much has changed about myself and my writing since 2012, when I got my first DD. I find it appropriate--now five years later and with the latest Daily Deviation of mine featured today--to mention how much I appreciate those who have helped watch me grow and become a better writer through community and constructive criticism. Many thanks to akrasiel, who gave me the Daily Deviation and continues to be an amazing force for the literature community. (Ironically, this is also her fifth ever feature Daily Deviation--five must be today's lucky number!)

"My Will O Wisp, I Spent Years Finding You In War" is a story about the ambiguity of war and the trials of love. In a tone reminiscent of letters, a girl calls out to the stars as if they were will o' wisps, and finds solace in the days to come.

My Will O Wisp, I Spent Years Finding You In WarDear William, when you warned people with that runaway star, no one noticed. Part of you died when you hurdled towards the Earth. In wartime, everyone loses part of themselves. My father fought for the next great war until his legs gave out. I don’t know if he ever killed someone, but I imagine a field of corpses and the smell of defecation would at least change a person. He never mentions it, except late at night, when we both look at the sky and watch you. He knew which way to go when fighting because he’d watch your stars and you’d keep him from danger. I’ll never forget that. His face was battered and grateful when he came home underneath the moon.
Yesterday, part of the Ursa Major was missing. Alkaid left your sky, William. My father tells me that he died a long time ago and the message has just now reached us, the light taking millennia to appear and disappear from the planet’s atmosphere. But I know he’s lying. What is a Daily Deviation?
"A Daily Deviation is a feature, selected by Community Volunteers or Staff Members, from right here on DeviantArt.
An assortment of submissions are chosen each day by this select group of staff and volunteer members who wish to showcase artwork they have found impressive or otherwise interesting enough to deserve being brought to the attention of the community-at-large!"
It's not an award. It means a work gets displayed site-wide for one day. It means I was impressed and thought the rest of DeviantArt ought to see it.
Who selects Daily Deviations and how are they chosen?
